We are seeking a motivated and reliable Mechanic Helper to join our team and support our skilled mechanics in performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections of vehicles, machinery, or equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in mechanics, be eager to learn, and demonstrate a strong work ethic. As a Mechanic Helper, you will assist in a variety of tasks that will help ensure the smooth operation of mechanical repairs and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Repairs & Maintenance:
    • Support mechanics in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles, engines, machinery, or other mechanical systems.
    • Assist in disassembling and assembling mechanical components, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and other parts.
    • Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and part replacements under the guidance of senior mechanics.
  • Tool & Equipment Management:
    • Organize and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in the workshop or garage, ensuring everything is in good working order and readily accessible.
    • Clean and lubricate tools and equipment after use.
    • Set up work areas and tools for mechanics before starting repair or maintenance jobs.
  • Parts & Inventory Support:
    • Assist in identifying and ordering parts and supplies needed for repairs.
    • Maintain accurate inventory records and help track parts usage and replenishment.
    • Transport parts to and from the work area as needed.
  • Vehicle & Equipment Preparation:
    • Help prepare vehicles or equipment for service, including lifting and positioning them safely in work bays.
    • Ensure proper safety measures are in place before repairs or maintenance work begins.
  • Cleaning & Housekeeping:
    • Keep the work area clean and organized, including sweeping, mopping, and disposing of waste materials, oils, or other hazardous materials properly.
    • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles, equipment, and machinery, as necessary.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of tools and equipment.
    • Assist in identifying and reporting safety hazards in the workplace.
    • Follow all company policies and procedures, as well as industry standards for safety and repair practices.
  • Learning & Development:
    • Work closely with mechanics to learn about different types of repairs and maintenance tasks.
    • Take initiative to develop mechanical knowledge and improve technical skills.
    • Participate in training sessions and stay updated on new tools, techniques, and industry standards.

Tasks

  • Move tools, equipment and other materials
  • Help tradespersons, apprentices and other workers as directed
  • Clean machines and immediate work areas

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under the direction of experienced mechanics.
  • Strong interest in learning about automotive or mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and physical stamina for lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in an auto shop, machine shop, or similar environment is a plus but not required.
  • Formal training in mechanics or automotive repair is beneficial but not necessary.
  • Willingness to undergo on-the-job training and continue to develop skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs or more) and work with tools and equipment.
  • Comfort working in various environments, including indoors and outdoors, and in different weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, squat, and kneel for extended periods during repairs.
